Please note:

  • The expiry month of your plate is determined by the first two letters of your last name; the first time you register a vehicle the cost is adjusted relative to the number of months until your expiry month (pro-rated).
  • Farm plate registration cost varies by the pulling weight of the vehicle.
  • Trailer registrations are permanent and do not need renewing. There is a one-time life-time fee upon the initial registration of your trailer.
  • Antique vehicle registration is permanent.
  • Vanity Plates can be ordered through our office. The maximum number of characters including spaces for a car is 7, for a motorcycle the maximum number is 5.

Welcome to Renewing Online and for a limited time “Curbside Pickup”

Renewing Online is a cinch. Complete the online Easy Renew form and then choose your delivery option 1) Mail 2) Express Lane Pick-up or 3) Curbside pick-up

If you choose option 1) Mail, you need to note that it can take up to 15 days before you will receive your registration documents.

If you choose option 2) Express Lane Pick-up, wait to receive an email that tells you your documents are ready, then stop by our office. Be sure to come to the EXPRESS LANE. Much like picking up photos at Costco or Wal-Mart. It's fast and seamless and makes it possible to avoid lineups. Please bring your ID and email that shows your transaction is ready for pick up.

For a limited time, because of COVID-19 and because we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times, we are focusing our approach on the health, safety, and well-being of our Valued Customers and Staff. Therefore, we are also offering curbside pickup. After you have received an email that tells you your documents are ready, come to our office and park in front. Then call our number 403-320-1030 to let us know you are ready for pickup. Please bring your ID and email that shows your transaction is ready for pick up. Then, we will hand your renewals to you through your vehicle window.

New Vehicle Registration is for a vehicle that is new to you but has been registered in Alberta by a previous owner.

All owners of the vehicle (according to the bill of sale) must be present to register your new vehicle.

Required Documents;

  1. Bill of Sale
  2. Proof of Insurance (Must be in the same name or names as on the Bill of Sale)
  3. Drivers License or Valid ID

Please note that if all parties that are on the Proof of ownership are unable to be present to register the vehicle, an Authorization for Vehicle Services form is required from the party who is unable to attend.

To register a vehicle in a name other than that on the bill of sale an Authorization for Vehicle Services form is required. Proof of insurance must also include all of the names you wish to have the vehicle registered in.

First time vehicle registration is for the brand new or fresh out of factory vehicles that have never been registered by anyone before.

Please bring the following:

  • *New Vehicle Information Sheet (NVIS)
  • Bill of Sale or Lease Agreement
  • Proof of Insurance must be in the same name or names as on the Bill of Sale or Lease Agreement
  • Driver's license(s)

Please note that if all parties that are on the Proof of ownership are unable to be present to register the vehicle, an Authorization for Vehicle Services form is required from the party who is unable to attend.

To register a vehicle in a name other than that on the bill of sale an Authorization for Vehicle Services form is required. Proof of insurance must also include all of the names you wish to have the vehicle registered in.

*NVIS Form is provided by the dealership you bought the vehicle from and is only needed the first time you register your new vehicle.

For all vehicles newly imported to Alberta.

All vehicles last registered in another province, state or country must first be inspected by an authorized mechanic before being registered in Alberta.

  1. Please bring:
    • Identification
    • Proof of ownership of your vehicle (Bill of sale or vehicle registration)
    • Proof of Insurance
  2. Obtain a Request for Vehicle Inspection from our registry office. Take this form to a mechanic authorized to do out-of-province inspections.
  3. The mechanic will give you an “Out of Province Inspection Certificate”. This form is good for 14 days ONLY! If you are not planning to register the vehicle within 14 days of the inspection, bring in the inspection form in to our registry office and we will update the vehicle status for a small fee.
  4. Please bring :
    • Identification
    • Proof of ownership of your vehicle (Bill of sale or vehicle registration)
    • Proof of Insurance
    • Out of Province Inspection Certificate
    • Import Form (Only if vehicle was purchased "out of country")

Plate Transfers

Used to transfer a plate from one vehicle to another vehicle. Both plate and vehicle must be registered in your name to do a plate transfer. Proof of ownership, proof of insurance and ID are also required.

Plate Exchanges

To replace lost or stolen plate; registration certificate; or tab (Sticker). Please provide your official Identification for this service.

Plate Cancellation

To cancel a license plate. If, for example, if you have sold a vehicle and are not planning on replacing it, you may want to cancel your plate and get a refund from the Government of Alberta.

Please note that if all parties that are on the Registration are unable to be present to make a transfer, exchange or cancellation, an Authorization for Vehicle Services form is required from the party who is unable to attend.

Consent for a Minor is now required when a minor or underage driver is:

  • Registering a vehicle for the first time.
  • Renewing their vehicle registration and transferring the registration to a different vehicle.
  • Transferring their existing vehicle registration to a different vehicle.
  • Registering a different vehicle when completing a plate exchange.
  • Basically, whenever there is any change made
  • Consent is NOT required when renewing with no changes
